Most blockers are easy to switch off, and most people switch them off. One
person put it this way: if I have a website blocker, I always turn it
off.
Is that a flaw in the person? No. A switch that takes one tap on a
good day takes one tap on a bad one. B-Simple is built for the bad one.
A wait you chose
Ten minutes to an hour, chosen when you set up. Close the app if you like; the countdown carries on and does not reset. Nothing will notify you when it finishes. If you still want it then, come back.
Fifteen minutes, then it relocks
Type a short phrase to finish. The site opens for fifteen minutes and then locks itself again. You do not have to remember to put it back.
What this won't block
Blocking works by domain name, so it cannot block a single page or a site reached by a raw IP address. A browser using its own secure DNS will bypass it. Android allows one VPN at a time, so B-Simple cannot run alongside another. No list catches everything.
You can uninstall it whenever you like
That holds in the free version and after paying. There is no device-admin lock and no extra confirmation, and it does not nag you to put it back. A lock you set yourself can always be undone, so the effort went into the wait instead. Why there is no uninstall lock is the longer answer.
What it costs
Blocking is free, and so is safe search. The free app gives you:
- Block any site, including its subdomains
- Your own reason, shown back to you when you look to remove a block
- A wait you choose, from ten minutes to an hour
- Safe search for Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo
- Recently blocked, so you can see what was caught and why
- Warnings when something can bypass the app
One payment of £3.59 adds a curated list of around 4,750 adult sites, kept clear of health, education and support services, along with importing your own lists and keyword blocking. It is paid once, through Google Play, which also handles any refund. There is no subscription and no account, and there is no advertising in either version. Among the subscription blockers the loudest complaints are about money, which is why the money side here is kept as plain as it can be.
Nothing about you leaves your phone, and this is how that works.
It has no opinion about what you block or why. The only reasons on its screens are the ones you wrote, and nobody else sees them. There is no partner to notify and no report to anyone.
Uninstalling is not obstructed - if you need this, keep it. Strengthen your volition.
